Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts
Announces 2008 Biennial

Pittsburgh Filmmakers and Pittsburgh Center for the Arts announce the 2008 Biennial, an exhibit of contemporary regional art running May 3 – August 24, 2008. With the merger of PF and PCA providing expanded resources, the 2008 Biennial presents a continuum of visual arts from still to moving images, as disciplines converge. Encompassing both campuses of PF/PCA, the exhibit includes two new components – a cinema program and a series of art performances.

An Opening Night reception will be held on Saturday, May 3, simultaneously at both locations in Pittsburgh’s East End, with a shuttle running between PCA in Shadyside and PF in North Oakland. The dual parties begin at 5:30pm and end with a dance party at PF. The event includes food and spirits, along with DJs, live performance art, digital projections, music and more. It is open to the public; $5 admission is requested; free to members. Additional information can be found at www.pittsburghbiennial.org.

The Biennial exhibit, which began in 1994, continues to showcase Southwestern Pennsylvania artists. This Biennial, featuring more than 40 artists, coincides with the City of Pittsburgh’s 250th anniversary, and with the Carnegie International. In addition, PCA will have the first exhibit exchange with the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia during the Biennial. These concurrent events provide a regional and international context and exposure for Pittsburgh artists.

Special events and performances scheduled throughout the run of The Biennial will be held at both PF/PCA locations, as well as the Harris Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. Admission for special events is $5; a “BI-PASS” for $20 will get patrons into all events.

The 2008 Biennial is funded in part by The Pittsburgh Foundation.
