Encyclopedia Destructica to Design the 2008 Biennial Catalog
The 2008 Biennial Catalog features an overview of the artists’ work while offering a contemporary spin on artist books. They are designed and assembled by Encyclopedia Destructica, a Pittsburgh-based artist collective known for publishing limited edition books and zines. The Biennial catalogs will be hand bound by artists and guests at a binding party during the exhibit. And in keeping with its non-traditional nature, the catalog will be released in two installments – one on opening night and one on closing night.
- The first installment of the 2008 Biennial catalog borrows from what Encyclopedia Destructica does with its art-zines, featuring process and sketch-work from
the Biennial artists. These will be available on Opening Night.
- The second installment will be released on Closing Night and will include images of installations and performances, and a DVD with video/film pieces from the
Biennial.
- The catalogs will be hand bound during community binding events during June and July. The binding parties will act as informal artist talks as well – an
opportunity for the public to engage in conversation with the artists as they work on the catalogs.
Encyclopedia Destructica is headed by Christopher Kardambikis and Jasdeep Khaira. They have published 14 zines/books since 2005. Its art-zines are inspired from the need to explore and export contemporary arts/culture in a way that’s engaging and accessible. Encyclopedia Destructica hopes to create a community wide awareness of developing work by local artists and writers through the public forum of a zine and the intimate experience of a book.
