2008 Biennial Launches Cinema Program
To showcase artists working with moving images, a cinema component has been added to the 2008 Biennial. It provides an entire program that had not been included in previous Biennials, lacking the venue of a theater presentation. This selection of 15 films, experimental videos and animation shorts will have a professional presentation, taking full advantage of PF/PCA’s theaters. The program will be shown daily in a video screening room in the PCA galleries, as well as before screenings at the Harris Theater, Regent Square Theater, and Melwood Screening Room in June. Rounding out the program will be a series of evenings with highlighted filmmakers, including Greg Pierce presenting films from The Orgone Archives; Eileen Maxson presenting her work and a video program she curated; and Jacob Ciocci of Paper Rad, presenting a video improvisation.
In addition, the 2008 Biennial features several performance events that incorporate video as an important element. Suzie Silver and Hilary Harp will premiere their vaudevillian performance, AV Lodge Presents: Fruit Machine, using video and interactive computer costuming. Vanessa German’s Testify uses filmed interviews of actors sharing dialogue with her own spoken word performance.
