Sisters of the Lattice

Pittsburgh Filmmakers

TEMPORARY STATEMENT

The Sisters of the Lattice are mystics constructing a philosophical hybrid between technology, spirituality, nature and human relationships. This collaborative project between Agnes Bolt and Nina Sarnelle has performed in art institutions, public places and private homes all over the country, abroad, and over the Internet. The Sisters have developed a range of ceremonies for participants that use iPads, cameras, cellular phones, and online platforms to approach metaphysical and interpersonal concerns.

Displayed here are 5 moving images from the Sisters of the Lattice's 2012 American tour. For five weeks, the Sisters used a custom iPad app to intuit a specific route across the country, stopping to perform in locations as diverse as truck stops, salt flats, forests and casinos. From hundreds of interactions with strangers, 5 selected individuals were “linked” to one another using an energy transference conducted over a conference call. In 2013, a feature-length film was constructed to tell the story of these 5 “Links." This 80-min interactive meditation will be screened at Pittsburgh Filmmakers in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Biennial, providing a sensorial experience that is part documentary travelogue, part psychedelic incantation.
